What's The Best Tool For Airing Down Tires?
We show how to use a tire deflator, how to adjust tire a deflator tool, how a tire valve works, and which style tire deflator is best. Going off road or overlanding? You're going to need to adjust your tire pressure to suit the terrain. The easiest way to air down tires is by using a specialized tool. In this video we introduce you to three, explain their differences, and describe their strengths and weaknesses.

Big thanks man 🙏🏼
😂😂😂
Wow! What an excellent presentation and explanation. Just what I was looking for and need to install my lights. Thank you and well done.
Is it possible to have an on and off switch manual hooked to my fan relay inside my engine fuse box? So I can turn it on manual if I need to instead of the coolant temperature sensor turning it on or when the air conditioner is on. I would rather have control of that sometimes
the point of the self tapping screw is it drills its own hole, why use the drill bit
Any updates on how they’re holding up?
Great content guys!
Thanks!
The Alpine Loop starts and ends in Lake City
That's one way to do it.
Would you use this in an SUV 🚙 for a good night sleep?
I think so!
Love that thing!❤
Toyota will be replacing my needle bearing. It has the lifetime warranty so a needle bearing will go back in. Don’t want to void the warranty with a non Toyota part. But if it was on me I would use the bushing.
have you tried to loosen all the bolts and retighten at its lowest position?
Yes, but the first time we lean against a rock it goes right back.

Isn't in pronounced 'Widdle Wadder'? :D
I think it is. Merri needs to brush up on her overland nomenclature LOL
😂😅😊🎉
I need help, the end that goes in the tire looks like it hits against the hub and it makes a noise on my Toyota.

@@Kentucky4runner 😆
that is way cool!!
Thank you for the video. I have used these for about 5 years and they hold up better than the stock type of sway bar end links (when you have a 3-inch lift). I haven't done the maintenance and they still work great. They squeak occasionally but I applied some spray WD-40 silicone grease to make them stop squeaking. I really haven't used them disconnected off-road so I cannot comment on that. I do like the suggestion to use a s-clip. I haven't had a problem with the straight pin with the detent ball, but I suspect that it would be challenging to get back in on the trail. I checked their website and there are some other options available now.
Very well explained. Many thanks to you guys. Keep it up.
Our pleasure!
Great video, are the lower control arms the same length as the stock?
Yes
Thank you, I just ordered them for my 4 runner
Good thing u said the c clip holds it in bc I was gonna take it off bc it looked loose on my new cv
@WanderlostOverland Do you think the bump out provides more functionality? I picture them protecting the sidewall of my rear tires when taking hard turns through obstacles. I wonder if they would wind up pushing me off my line though. Any opinion?
Nice video .. thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
I didn't notice you verifying the tire pressure after using the Jaco unit. In my experience, some of these Chinese pressure gauges aren't always accurate either...there will almost always be a +/- variance between the gauge reading and the actual reading. All comes down to can you live with the variance depending on the situation. 20+/- 2 psig in your deflator test seems livable, but the 14 psig reading, I agree, is a bit too far out of range. I've been using Coyote deflators set at 18 psig and they're very accurate. I recently picked up a set of All Top deflators but haven't tried them yet to comment on them.
Nice upgrade on the terminals. However, removing the factory cover design will only add anxiety to its safety. Prevention is better than a cure for the lack of something. We won't know when accidents will occur. Thank you for the video. God bless you
Honest review. I think these units are more efficient inside where they can recirculate the cold air output.
Great video. We watch 'em all. We use neither method. We simply remove the valve stem and keep it pinched on the end of the valve stem remover in one hand and check the pressure with pencil pressure gauge as the air rushes out. When we get to about 2-3 lbs from desired pressure we spin the valve stem back in. It's fast. It's simple. It's inexpensive. My wife does one side while I do the other. Takes about a minute to do all four tires. Yes. We have a little baggie of spare valve stems just in case. But so far have never lost one. Try it and see what you think.
The push lock nozzle on the Jaco deflator is a game changer! I also have found the automatic type deflators will overshoot by 5-7 psi sometimes. I am a deflator gauge user
How do you wire that kit into a 4 wire? LED.?
Thank you for this video. Im getting my 4runner ready for some off-roading. I never knew these cost $100.00. Glad that the Jaco ones are a little more budget friendly, while working well.
Glad I could help!
This is a great, detailed video. Everything this gentleman does applies to 2014 FJ Cruiser. Everything. One thing I would like to add. In my case, the FJ Cruiser was in NY. Then Midwest. The biggest challenge is salt and snow. Over time.... the bolts and nuts rust. So in my case the bolts for the manifold... broke off. The batteries for the base of the battery.... yep... the nut is above the strut exposed to the element. Yup... one did not make it. So for a 2014 FJ with 97,000 ... hmn it is not a maintenance job. It becomes a repair job. The screws the injectors also break. I just want to offer my experience. Again, this is a great video and all steps are exactly what you must do to service the spark plugs.
We're very glad it was of help to you. Sorry about the busted bolts.
In my experience I'm gaining more time with first option than the gage deflector. First of all I can just put it on and drive down the trail and then take it off. Second , usually I'm middle of nover and opening and closing the valve there is no guarantee that I'm not going to strip the valve stem. I thing doing that constantly with each off road trip eventually will break.
My rig is a 2014 Ram Power Wagon w/35s, when she's loaded down for adventure she can be a little on the porky side, and my main concern is having equal air left to right for load stability. I have been using my Indeflate 2 hose system w/mechanical gauge for several years now and it is a perfect solution for me. I am not concerned with speed, I have all the time in the world (retired), and I'm not the normal UA-cam overlander rushing to get to the next campsite before dark every day. I do carry a set of Boulder Tools deflators with mechanical gauge as a backup, 2 is 1 and 1 is none, and I highly recommend the Boulder Tools products from Amazon that offers many solutions for overlanders that do not break the bank. Nice video though, love what you do for the overlanding community, and I look forward to whatever you have next.
The JACO addressed my one and only complaint about the ARB deflater by getting a quick connect. Way to go JACO!
I agree that the gauge style deflator is more precise and variable depending on terrain. I prefer simple. I also have observed lost valve stems or warn out stems I'm guessing from repetitive deflating. Thank you for the demonstrations.
Thanks for sharing!
I use the boulder tools deflators as I just couldn't stomach the $70 for the Staun brand. I've set mine to 18 lbs and based on my eyechrometer they look right every time. The 1st tire is done deflating by the time I make it back around after attaching them all and so on. This fascination with time savings is just hilarious to me and as you saw was minimal. I get the accuracy part though. I do refuse to buy into the 4 way inflate/deflate systems,, my smooth brain can't comprehend the dollars spent vs advantage gained there.
I use a set of Boulder Tools tire deflators (knock-off Stauns, essentially), set to 20 psi and have never once been touched or recalibrated. They're good from about 17 to 21 or 22 every time, every tire, and for me that's good enough. It's literally two continuous slow walks around the vehicle, during which time I'm examining all aspects of the Jeep before wheeling it. I have an ARB valve deflator (like the Jayco) in case I want to go lower or higher, but normally 20 is my default. I also have a Jayco digital tire gauge and I like it a lot.
Safety Racing Tire Pressure Gauge with Bleeder Valve (0 - 60 psi) Around $30.00 Works way better than these monstrosities.
What's the rush? Then there's the issue of accuracy of tire gauges. I've tried all kinds of tire gauges and none of them are in the same ball park as the others so I just go by the one that I'm most comfortable with. My name brand air pump's built in gauge is over 10 pounds lower than ALL of my tire gauges.
I prefer to air down with Apex RCV valves. I can go from street pressure to 18 psi in under 2 min for all 4. The Apex valve stems are even quicker.
Ground wire onto plastic 🙄
I have a jaco air gauge, and it seems to be spot on each time. Agree-like not having to worry about batteries. I like the individual deflators-because I’m lazy and don’t necessarily care about the difference in psi on airdown. (A whole, different discussion there).
I didn't notice you using the drain hose on either test. Was it something that isn't needed?
definitely needed
MUCH better than the ECGS video! Thanks.
Thanks you!
Keep in mind the human body gives off about 250 BTU an hour at rest more when moving around. Also the hoses are not insulated carrying the hot air to and from the unit. The tent has no insulation from outside temperatures this also is a factor. I would say you would need a 5000 BTU unit at very least.
I know what not to buy .. good job on the review 👏 👍
It's 109 outside here in the desert and I have my doubts how well it's going to actually cool off in this desert climate . No shade in the desert either .
